Sonia Manzano may not be a major Hollywood star or a Hollywood A-lister, but her face is definitely one that’s very familiar to TV audiences all over the world. The reason for her fame was her portrayal of the role of Maria in the long-running American educational children’s television series Sesame Street. The show, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019, was a worldwide hit. In the United States alone, a 2018 survey discovered that around 86 million Americans watched the show as children. Manzano played the role of Maria in the show for 44 years – she retired from playing the character in 2015.
