Atkins, a sailing instructor at the time, auditioned for the movie The Blue Lagoon, and his debut movie was a hit! The film was controversial and made him a pop culture phenomenon, but it also type casted him.
Atkins would go on to guest in a few shows such as Suddenly Susan and Dallas, model for magazines and even embarked on a musical career, but they never really amounted to much. He has been taking on a project or two every year since.
