Gil Gerard, 77 Years Old
Like many actors before and after him, Gil Gerard played small parts in television shows and films before getting that one big break. For Gerard, his big break came when he was cast as Captain William ‘Buck’ Rogers in the television series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.
Years after the series ended, Gerard continued to appear in TV shows and films but faced some health issues because of his weight. He decided to undergo a life-saving surgery in 2005, which proved successful since he lost a total of 145 lbs less than a year after the procedure. His experience was the subject of a one-hour documentary by the Discovery Health Channel entitled Action Hero Makeover.
