Debra Winger – An Officer and a Gentleman
While most actresses retire from the acting business if they aren’t getting any good acting jobs, Debra quit while she was still receiving Oscar nominations for her work! After delivering memorable performances in Urban Cowboy, Terms of Endearment, and of course, in An Officer and a Gentleman, the then 40-year old chose to retire from Hollywood in 1995 as she was disillusioned by showbiz. Instead, she dug her teeth into charity work, environmental activism, theatre and she finally got the time to spend with her growing family. She eventually returned to the screen to act with her husband actor Arliss Howard in 2001’s Big Bad Love.
