John McCain and Roberta McCain: Son and Mother
The late senator John McCain had his biggest supporter in Roberta McCain, his mother. Now 106 year old, the older McCain has outlived her son, who passed away due to an aggressive form of brain cancer in August 2018. The news of his death may be reminiscent of the incident in 1967 when she was informed that her son’s plane had been shot down and there was a big possibility the pilot, her son, did not survive. But the Senator did survive, and became a prisoner of war in Vietnam. He was freed after 5 years, and he went on to live until he was 81.
