Molly Brown: Priceless, Denver

American socialite Margaret Brown has been famously called as the ‘unsinkable Molly Brown’ because of having survived the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. She’s portrayed in the 1998 movie Titanic by award-winning actress Kathy Bates. When Brown passed away in 1932, her home was sold for a mere $6,000. It deteriorated but fortunately during the 70s a group called Historic Denver, Inc. raised money to restore it to its former glory, to become The Molly Brown House Museum. Originally built during the 1880s, its architect William A. Lang incorporated Queen Anne Style architecture in the house’s design. When the original owners were forced to sell it, Brown’s husband bought it for $30,000. The house has exhibits of Brown’ life as well as life in general during the Victorian Denver era.
