Babe Ruth – Died August 16, 1948
To this day, Babe Ruth remains a baseball legend. Also known as “The Great Bambino” and “The Sultan of Swat,” he held the home run record for many years and is still regarded as one of the best sportsmen of all time. He was diagnosed with cancer in 1946, and he was one of the first people to receive cancer treatment as we know it today. During this time, he continued playing. True to form, the last photo ever taken of him was in his beloved Yankee Stadium, using a baseball bat as a cane in the last stages of his illness. He died just 2 months later.
