Christa McAuliffe – Died January 28, 1986
In 1986, the world watched in horror as the Challenger space shuttle broke apart just 2 minutes after takeoff right before everyone’s eyes, resulting in the death of everyone on board, including Christa McAuliffe. When she earned her university degree, Christa had only wanted to become a teacher until she was selected to take part in NASA’s Teacher in Space Project. There was much excitement about her presence in the Challenger, which NASA has claimed amplified the disaster. She was last photographed excitedly walking towards the space shuttle with the rest of the crew.
