Steve Irwin – Died September 4, 2006
Steve Irwin was a beloved outdoors man and conservationist whose various wildlife shows, including The Crocodile Hunter, was well-loved by audiences of all ages. He was best known for his infectious enthusiasm, which translated very well on screen. He died while filming on location at Queensland’s Batt Reef for the series, Ocean’s Deadliest. His last image was captured by a fan who was sailing when he stopped Steve and stopped to say hello. Moments later, he dived into the water and went snorkeling in the shallows of the reef when he was accidentally stung by a short-tail stingray in the chest and it was reportedly caught on camera. The actual footage of him in the water was destroyed by his wife after his death.
