Powerhouse Homes: An Insightful Look into Politician Residences

Pete Buttigieg: ~ $8.1 Million, Indiana

Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend and current U.S. Secretary of Transportation, owns a charming piece of history in his hometown. In 2009, Buttigieg purchased a 1905 neoclassical home that had long caught his eye. Located just a street from his childhood home, the 2,500-square-foot, three-bedroom house overlooks the scenic St. Joseph River, adding to its timeless appeal.

Buttigieg, who had been eyeing the house since 2008 while working in Chicago, finally seized the opportunity when the bank lowered the price after it had been vacant for nearly two years. He bought it for $125,000 and later took out a second mortgage to fund repairs. The home, which holds personal significance and reflects his connection to South Bend, was most recently valued at $255,000, showcasing its enduring charm and importance to its notable owner.
