OLD STARS YOU THOUGHT ARE LONG GONE
BUT THEY ARE NOT EVEN PLANNING THEIR RETIREMENT
Isabel Pantoja, Born in 1956
Sevillian crooner Isabel Pantoja is a legend of the copla genre of Spanish music, and has over a dozen albums in a career that has lasted many decades. Coming from a family of singers and musicians, Isabel started performing with a cousin when she was just 7.
As a young teen she met songwriter Juan Solano Pedrero, and he helped pen her earlier hits ‘El Señorito,’ ‘El Pájaro Verde’ and ‘Garlochí.’ Isabel has acted in movies such as Yo soy ésa, and is still popular in Spain and Latin America. She also became known as ‘The Widow of Spain’ after her beloved husband, famous bullfighter Francisco Rivera Pérez died in a bullfight in 1983.
