Before there was Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot, a Hollywood celebrity who once served in the military, there was Golden Girls actress Bea Arthur. Before the comedian joined Hollywood, she enlisted in the marine corps at the time of World War II. If you’re wondering what department she served, the tough cookie was a typist and a truck driver for the army. We have no idea as to why Arthur was not very proud of her service, denying at one point that she ever served. But proof of her 30-month service as staff sergeant is an old image and a recording of her voice saying “nothing to do but join” when enlistment for women in the Marines opened.
