Edd Byrnes – NATURAL CAUSES
If you think Henry Winkler’s The Fonz character in Happy Days is original hair-combing and jacket-wearing cool guy, then think again. It was Edd Byrnes’ character in 77 Sunset Strip, Kookie, which is considered the progenitor of The Fonz. The role made Byrnes a teen sensation in the late 50s and early 60s, especially when the song he recorded along with Connie Stevens, Kookie, Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb) topped the charts. Sadly his famous character’s shadow never left him and Byrnes did not get an acting break as big as that of 77 Sunset Strip. On January 8, 2020, the 87-year-old actor died of natural causes.
