During V-J Day, Navy quartermaster, George Mendonsa was so happy about the victory of the US over Japan that he grabbed an unknown nurse and kissed her. The kiss happened in New York times square, and shot by photographer, Alfred Eisenstaedt. Even though it was featured inside Life magazine and not on its cover, it became one of the most famous photos of the 20th century.
