Actor Jim Backus is best remembered as Thurston Howell III, the millionaire in the TV show Gilligan’s Island. However, he also played Zaccariah T. Brown, a recurring character, in The Brady Bunch. His character appeared only twice in the series, and during the actor’s third guest role, he played a different role, that of Mr. Harry Matthews, Mike’s second boss. Backus is the original owner of what they call in Bel Air as the Backus House, a Mid-Century Modern-style house, one of architect Greta Magnusson Grossman’s earliest projects, that many people believe should be conserved.
