River Phoenix – Died October 31, 1993
River Phoenix was the world’s foremost teen idol from the 80’s to the early 90’s. His untimely death at age 23 made him a poster boy for the perils of stardom at such a young age. Like most of his peers, he had a drug addiction problem. On the night of October 30, he and his friend, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers fame, went to The Viper Room, a Hollywood nightclub owned by Johnny Depp. Hours later, River collapsed after overdosing. His brother, actor Joaquin Phoenix, called 911, but despite best efforts by medical doctors to revive him, River was declared dead in the early hours of October 31. His last photo was taken just 2 days before his death, on the set of Dark Blood, which he had just finished shooting.
