Mysterious Facts and Discoveries of Ancient Rome

The Secret Scrolls

Libraries are not a new thing, in fact many such places existed in the ancient world. However there is only one library from antiquity that survived the test of time and wrath of nature. Archaeologists dug up what they call the ‘Villa of the Papyri’ in the ancient Roman City of Herculaneum, called such because they found 1800 scrolls of papyri inside, which have been preserved due to carbonization caused by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The Herculaneum Papyri, as they are now called, have been heavily carbonized that unraveling them would cause great damage. Experts have been inventing devices to make sure no further damages can be made in their attempts to read them. Up to this day, scientists are in a race to be the first one to be able to read the secrets inside these ancient scrolls.
