The newer generations of cinema goers know of Cicely Tyson because of the movie The Help and the TV series, How to Get Away with Murder, but her career goes way back to the mid-50s. Tyson was a model before she started acting in television shows and movies such as Carib Gold, East Side/West Side and The Guiding Light. She became well known for starring in Sounder, for which, she was nominated for an Oscar. She is also the founder of her own acting school, the Cicely Tyson School of Performing and Fine Arts.
