Dance Training
After abandoning his dream of competing in the Olympics, Swayze left Texas to further his dance training, by enrolling himself in Harkness Ballet School and Joffrey Ballet School. Obviously, he wanted to pursue a career in dance while concentrating on ballet. His mother provided him his initial dance lessons but he needed to train from other institutes that specialized in the art of ballet. His training at the Joffrey Ballet School seemed to have been useful, later on in his life, when the creators of the movie Dirty Dancing were searching for the perfect dancer and actor to cast in the movie.
