When the film celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2017, screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein shared some ‘behind the scene’ secrets. The first thing she shared was that they never considered another actor for the role of Johnny Castle besides Swayze. The writer saw the actor’s photo and wanted him to play the part, and as a bonus, he was a dancer who came from Joffrey Ballet School. She also revealed that since the title Dirty Dancing seemed to indicate that it was not a “family film”, the team considered changing it to I Was a Teenage Mambo Queen.
