Rock Hudson: The Complicated Life of a Legendary Hollywood Heartthrob
The Castle
During the height of his career, Universal Studios renewed Rock Hudson’s contract, plus the company bought him a house, complete with home insurance in Beverly Hills that was coined ‘The Castle’. The actor spent a total of 23 years restoring this home, where he lived from 1962 until his death in 1985. The Spanish style home was situated on 3 acres of land. Anyone who has been in the castle would know that it was owned by a gay man, because the design was ‘early butch,’ as the friends of the actor have put it. Noticeable are sculptures of men with no clothes around the house. Hudson lived alone in the house, accompanied only by his housekeeper.
