Freddie Mercury – Common-law Husband to Mary Austin (~ 22 years)
The charismatic lead singer of Queen is once again in the spotlight, thanks to the popular biopic on his life called Bohemian Rhapsody, named after the band’s famous song. From the movie we know that he had a great relationship with Mary Austin, who would be with him until his death in 1991 from AIDS related illnesses. It was well known that Mercury was gay but he claimed that Mary was his common law wife and even proposed marriage to her. They first met in 1969 when she was only 19 and he was just starting his famous band. Soon enough they moved in together and she was his constant companion and rock. After his death, he willed her his $75 million estate and his London mansion, in which she lives to this day.
