Celebrities Who You Didn’t Know Served In The Military
Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix’s career may have been short-lived, only four years to be exact, but he is now considered a musical legend and is believed to be one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music. After acquiring his first ever guitar at age 15, Hendrix went to form his band the Velvetones. However the young Hendrix did not focus solely in his music, and was caught twice by police officers riding stolen cars. Lucky for him, instead of sending him to jail, the authorities gave him another choice, which is to join the army. After enlisting in 1961, Hendrix was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Kentucky. Hendrix did well while serving and after completing paratrooper training, he was awarded the Screaming Eagles patch. The music icon’s cause for discharge was an ankle injury he suffered after a parachute jump.
