One of the best characters actors still alive, is how many people describe actor Gene Hackman. But before he appeared in The Unforgiven, The French Connection, and as the famous Lex Luthor, the arch nemesis of Superman in a few Superman movies, the actor had joined the marines. Gene was determined to make it in life when he left home at 16, which was why he decided to join the military. Obviously the actor lied about his age when he enlisted, being underaged. Before being discharged in 1951, Hackman served as a radio operator and was stationed in different countries like China, Hawaii, and Japan.
