Jim Davis – MULTIPLE MYELOMA
Actor Jim Davis’ is remembered by fans today for playing Jock Ewing in the famous CBS prime-time soap opera, Dallas, but his acting career started many years before the show even aired. His first major screen role was in the late 1940s, in the movie Winter Meeting, where he starred alongside the legendary actress Bette Davis. When he got the role of family patriarch Jock Ewing in Dallas, Davis was already approaching his 70s. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma during the shoot of the show’s fourth season, but despite this, he continued taping the show, even wearing a hairpiece at some point to hide his hair loss. Instead of replacing Davis while he was undergoing treatment, the creators of Dallas made it appear as though his character went to South America, and later on died due to a helicopter crash.
