It was in 1939 that the Great Depression, a period where nations suffered an economic crisis, was about to end, the time when this photograph was also taken. Since most American households were so poor, mothers could not afford to buy their kids new clothes, so they made them clothes out of flour sacks. When a flour manufacturer discovered this, he decided to make flour sacks with clothes that have flower patterns on them.
