The Return of the Mona Lisa Painting in the Louvre Museum in Paris

When Renaissance painter, Leonardo da Vinci, painted the Mona Lisa, he was probably clueless that it will become the most famous painting in the world.  But the reason why the painting catapulted to fame is because of a handyman from Italy named, Vincenzo Peruggia stole it from the Louvre in 1911.  It was later recovered and brought back to the Louvre in 1914.  If you think the painting is on loan in the museum, think again, because King François I bought it from da Vinci, and so it belongs to the French government, as the museum too.
