Mysterious Facts and Discoveries of Ancient Rome

Air Pollution

If you think our generation is killing the planet with all the technology we have right now, well, think again.  Experts believe that air pollution wasn’t just a byproduct of the Industrial Revolution.  Bubbles that have been trapped in Greenland’s ice is proof that we started emitting greenhouse gases at least 2,000 years ago, right at the time of the ancient Romans.  Studies have shown that methane concentrations went up during the time of ancient Romans, the cause of which were not industrial plants, but rather human activity, particularly large-scale agriculture and metallurgy.  Who knew blacksmiths back then produced s0 much methane gas whenever they burned wood to fashion metal into weapons.
