Mysterious Facts and Discoveries of Ancient Rome

Poison Elixir

In today’s world, superfoods are so popular that they are mixed with just about anything, from soups to salads and drinks. People take them to remain healthy so as to not use up their health insurance. One thing that can cause people to get sick is poison, but did you know that ancient Roman leaders used to drink a small amount of poison every morning so they could become immune to it? At the height of the Roman Empire, the use of poison as a tool for assassination was prevalent. To make themselves immune to poison, leaders apparently drank a small amount of poison called Mithridatium. The name comes from the famous Mithradates VI Of Pontus, a brilliant toxicologist who was also called the ‘Poison King’, as he is said to have started the practice of drinking little drops of poison for immunity.
