Although Italian actor Franco Nero appeared in several other films with memorable roles, his lead character role in the film Django as Union soldier-turned-drifter Django became the one that defined his career. Nero couldn’t even believed that the very violent Western film became a favorite among Americans and received quite a cult following. The appeal can be mainly attributed to how director Sergio Corbucci made it so much unlike the usual American Westerns that had been made before it. The original film made way to many sequels, all the while inspiring other filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino to make 2012’s Django Unchained.
