Before the Last Curtain Call- See The Last On-Screen Performances from Hollywood Greats Before they Died
Paul Newman – Empire Falls
Leave it to a legend like Paul Newman to leave Hollywood and this world with a ‘bang’. He received an Academy Award Best Supporting Actor nomination for his last feature film Road to Perdition, and he won a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy for his last ever appearance on screen for the HBO mini-series Empire Falls. Newman, whose best known film was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, retired in 2007 probably due to his lung cancer diagnosis that required the attention of medical doctors and professional caregivers. The actor’s last screen appearance may have been in 2005 for Empire Falls, but his last major feature film role was in 2006’s animated film Cars, where he provided the voice for Doc Hudson.
