Before the Last Curtain Call- See The Last On-Screen Performances from Hollywood Greats Before they Died

Dorothy Dandridge – Cain’s Hundred

If Halle Berry was the first ever African-American actress to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, it was Dorothy Dandridge who paved the way for that to happen, as she is the first woman of color to be nominated for this award. Besides that, Dandridge was also the first African-American actress to have a highly successful Hollywood career.  Like some of her peers in the business, Dandridge’s career was cut short at 42, when she overdosed on imipramine, a drug usually prescribed by medical doctors to treat depression and anxiety. Her last screen appearance was in the TV drama series Cain’s Hundred in 1963.
