Rock Hudson: The Complicated Life of a Legendary Hollywood Heartthrob
The ‘Confidential’ Threat
In 1955, the magazine Confidential threatened Hudson and his agent, Willson, that they would expose to the public the fact that the actor was gay. The talent agent sprung into action and stopped the expose by giving out information and suppling them with even more juicy gossip about Hollywood biggies to the magazine. He revealed that Tab Hunter was arrested at a party and Rory Calhoun was sent to prison in the past. This was the time that Willson pushed Hudson to marry Phyllis Gates, even when the actor repeatedly said he did not love her.
