Mysterious Facts and Discoveries of Ancient Rome

The Lost Legions of Carrhae

In 53 BCE, Marcus Licinius Crassus, a Roman general known to be the vanquisher of Spartacus, led a Roman army to Parthia, now the modern day Iran, to spread the Roman power over the region.  Unfortunately the group was met in battle by a Parthian army under Surena, and they lost, wiping almost all the army including General Crassus, except 10,000 of the legionaries.  It has been said that from Parthian control, the legionaries were transferred to Mongol control, and lastly to the Chinese.  Because of their skills, the Chinese were impressed with the foreign warriors and made them guards of the border between China and Tibet.  This place is where the said legionaries have settled, which the Chinese called Liqian/Li-Jien, which is pronounced like ‘legion’.  Liqian today is populated with people who obviously have Caucasian ancestry, evident by their tell-tale Roman features, most prominently their noses, height, and blue-green eyes.
