Mysterious Facts and Discoveries of Ancient Rome

Locusta

If you think assassins are only part of the modern world, then you are mistaken.  In fact, an assassination was even more prevalent in ancient times, with perpetrators getting more aggressive with their ways, although they were subtle.  Instead of guns, the preferred method of carrying out assassinations involved poisons.  Take for example a woman in ancient Rome called Locusta.  This woman was said to have been an expert on poisons under empress Agrippina, the mother of Emperor Nero.  Locusta is said to be Nero’s favorite, because she helped him poison and kill Britannicus, the true and rightful heir to the Roman throne.  To show his gratitude to Locusta, Nero rewarded her with palatial estates where pupils were sent to learn the craft of concocting poisons from her.
