Mysterious Facts and Discoveries of Ancient Rome
The Forgotten Name
For sometime now, Tel Dor has been a favorite for underwater explorers because it’s been regarded as a storage of valuable ancient objects. And that is exactly what a team of researchers from the University of Haifa in Israel have found in the area. they discovered a 1,900-year-old slab that appears to be the bottom of some kind of a Roman structure with a surprising inscription – identifying Gargilius Antiquus as the Roman governor of Judea in the period prior to the Bar Kochba revolt. The Bar Kokhba Revolt is one of the most important moments in Jewish History that took place around 132–136 AD. After this revolt, the Romans decided to abolish the province of Judea. After it ceased to exist, the name of the last Roman governor of the region was forgotten, until this ancient slab was discovered.
