Mysterious Facts and Discoveries of Ancient Rome

Show Your Uni-brow

Trends in eyebrows differ throughout the ages, there are thin, thick, drawn, and these days – natural looking thick brows. Eyebrows are so important these days that some people seek cosmetic surgeries just to get that perfect pair of brow. In ancient times however, their eyebrow practices were very odd by today’s standards, take for example that of the ancient Romans. Because of Greek influences, women practiced painting the eyebrow with soot or antimony, sometimes even goat hair with tar, to create look that can be considered a uni-brow, which simply means the two eyebrows meeting in the middle creating one whole eyebrow on the face. Apparently a uni-brow is a sign of intelligence, so if they didn’t have them naturally, they found a way to make their eyebrows so.
