Although her parents were never alcoholics themselves, the actress admitted that many relatives from her mother’s side of the family suffered from alcohol addiction. One day her husband asked her to stop, for him and their children’s sake, and this prompted Carter to admit herself to a rehab facility. Celebrating over 20 years of sobriety, the real-life superhero helps other people who suffer from the same disease she had by sharing her experience with them.
